HALLOWEEN 2025

HALLOWEEN 2025 contains a few bands you may not identify with All Hollows' Eve, but I think you’ll be surprised to find the tracks by THE PRETENDERS, T BONE BURNETT, & MARTY STUART, nestle in nicely (like mutant blood-thirsty ticks) alongside tracks by THE CRAMPS, THE COFFIN NAILS, THE FUZZTONES, & JOHN ZACHERLE!

I always appreciated HELEN REDDY’s Twilight Zone-themed: Angie Baby, and JIM STAFFORD’s Swamp Witch is surprisingly spooky, as is TAV FALCO’s Vampire From Havana.

Some bands' names are enough to warrant inclusion, like BARON DAEMON & THE VAMPIRES, THE TOMBSTONES, & THE 69 EYES.  Others, not so much, like BIG BOB KORNEGAY, THE EARLS OF SUAVE, & THE GINTOWN BOOZERS.

All of them were carefully selected by THE ONE WHO STINKS to darken your HALLOWEEN (as is my annual tradition).  In the words of Creature Feature's Master Of Scare-a-monies DR. PAUL BEARER: “I’ll be LURKING for you!”

  1. Downloaders are requested to share a memory of the local HORROR MOVIE TV HOST of their youth.

I’ve quoted mine above—maybe you grew up with the mother of of them all: VAMPIRA (Maila Nurmi) or the father of the rest: JOHN ZACHERLE!

    1. Excellent creepy collection Stinky, thanks.
I'm sorry to say that as far as I remember we had no such thing as a local horror TV host in the Netherlands as that kind of movies were (unfortunately!) seldom shown on Dutch TV...
But in order to contribute something related, in 1983 one of the first Dutch horror movies was released to great acclaim: The Lift!

    2. Agree with Koen. Great choice of songs. There was little to no horror on Dutch TV. There was however a children show in 1978 that had a very uncanny character
De Plaaggeest. He appeared in a 7 part 30 min. children tv show made by The Crocksons (Bas en Aad van Toor). The plaaggeest was a crreapy tease, a practical joker. For children, he was very muh the stuff of nightmares, only equalled by The Childcatcher from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

    3. Being from north-western Pennsylvania, Ghoulardi was the man. Ghoulardi was a character invented & portrayed by disc jockey, voice announcer, & actor Ernie Anderson as the host of late night Shock Theater at WJW-TV, Channel 8, in Cleveland, Ohio. He had much to do with shaping the mindset of 70s Cleveland youth.

    4. Thanks NO. Ghoulardi WAS great.

Did you know that after he left Cleveland, he was "The Voice Of ABC" AND the father of film director PAUL ANDERSON?

    5. Thanks Koen, & Richard. I guess the Dutch don't like horror as much as Americans do.

I commented on Koen's movie THE LIFT, but my comment's disappeared. It's available on TUBI if anyone is interested. I'm gonna check it out.

    6. OH NO! I accidentally deleted a comment from Viacom CMD, who was reminiscing about Friday nights in MPLS, when he and his siblings tried to stay awake for the weekly monster movie on TV.

Very sorry, Viacom! I meant to REPLY to your comment (not delete it), but now I can't undo my mistake. I wanted to add that Milwaukee TV also had monster movies every Friday night. "Shock Theatre" was hosted by Dr. Cadaverino (who doubled as the puppeteer for Milwaukee’s beloved TV weather puppet, Albert the Alley Cat!)

    7. I just found a website that lists many of TV's horror hosts: http://www.horrorhostgraveyard.com/

Click on "labels" (on the left side of the page), and you can scroll through a long alphabetical list of host and show names. I had no idea that so many doctors were moonlighting (literally) as monster movie hosts. Guess those med school bills don't pay themselves!

    8. Ha ha boo! No worries jonder, I found it in my email trash: I don't know who the kooky voice is but HORROR, Inc. was standard weekly TV growing up in Mpls., MN on Friday nights--"Popcorn party night" after neighborhood games in our family of 10 then The Shadow half hour or so black and white TV show after the horror movie but didn't match the color movies like the Frankenstein that wasn't greenface or Crawling Hand that I remember well. Here is the intro: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=arqZNJ_8vAA and outro: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W7ZrdqtJZHI THANKS STINKY!!!

    9. I used to sleep over at a friend's house who had six brothers & sisters, & we'd all try to stay up to watch SHOCK THEATER on Friday Night. They always had popcorn, too, Viacom. I guess it's an inexpensive snack when you have a lot of mouths to feed. SHOCK THEATER on the local NBC affiliate had a spooky graphic and music--no host. But CREATURE FEATURE that aired on the UHF station on Saturday Morning did! I have some great memories of watching some pretty bad movies.

    1. VAMPIRA (both the Misfits song, and the pioneering horror host who inspired it) are favorites of mine.

COUNT FLOYD (who hosted Monster Chiller Horror Theater on SCTV, and screened such classics as "Dr. Tongue's 3D House of Stewardesses") is another of the all-time greats.

I can't forget SIMON MILLIGAN and his sidekick Manservant Hecubus (EVIL!) from "The Pit of Ultimate Darkness".

  7. I like what Svengoolie brings to the table these days. He makes a fine action figure, too!

The collection is heavily lacking in Misfits, but otherwise is a fine comp. Looking forward to blasting this one while I drive my Munster Koach to work tomorrow.

    1. Thanks Captain J. I love that SVENGOOLIE action figure!

Good point! There was a MISFITS track, but it didn't make the final cut because I couldn't get it to flow with the rest of the tracks.

  8. Rochester NY had the Chiller, who was, as I remember, the weather man. Syracuse had a regular movie feature on Saturday night named Eivom (which was just Movie spelt backwards).

  9. I remember Zacherlee and The Creep, and remember a wonderful summer when WPIX ran a show hosted by Professor Morgus...but my most vivid monster movie memory is of the creepy-ass six-fingered hand that introduced WPIX's CHILLER THEATER when I was a kid:

  12. Hoi, Stinky
I hope you do not mind. I have made my own mixtape for Helloween.
The music here is great, and the kids have fun with plastic chickens, and rubber axes .
They did not like the mix I made them. Too real. I disagree, I told them it was like finding a real dead mouse at the bottom of your popcorn bucket.....
So have a wee first, headphones in the dark, and it's only a one sided c-90 tape stuff.
Hope you can recorgnize (without shazam) the used bits

    1. Thank you, Richard! Readers, you can stream this (or download it) from the Pixeldrain link. Listening to it now -- the first 17 minutes sound a bit like Virgin Prunes, or maybe Skinny Puppy? Followed by a Butthole Surfers tribute, a spooky Goth poem, and more Buttholey behavior. An industrial dance beat starts around the 33 minute mark. I don't really recognize any of the songs, but they are blended together with skill. I hope no one was harmed in the making of this mix. Very creepy, and nicely done!
