Take That! Songwriters Taking Swipes Vol. 5
Waylon Jennings feels this Outlaw Shit has gotten out of hand while Travis Logan feels this country needs a little more steel guitar. The Smiths feel you just haven’t earned it, while Joe Jackson can’t believe who that hottie's dating, & R.E.M. preaches that Living Well is The Best Revenge. While he had his shortcomings, I've always admired Sly Stone’s stance on Loose Booty. In Ellis Unit One (Live) Steve Earle manages to play guitar while he shakes his first at capital punishment.
Graham Parker rekindles his resentment toward his former label with an acoustic version of Mercury Poisoning. On the other hand, Nick Lowe loves his label. Jackson Browne is anti-racist, The Kinks are anti-money grubbers, & Cyan are anti-Lulu! All The Young Punks (New Boots & Contracts) came late in The Clash’s recording history, but retained a lot of bile. The Who’s My Wife is self-explanatory, as are Motörhead’s Fools, & Mojo Nixon’s Destroy All Lawyers. - Stinky

ReplyDeleteWe played an APRIL FOOLS PRANK on our readers, and heard from one very good-natured soul. We understand that people are unlikely to return to a blog, they visited once or twice, to comment on something they downloaded, but I’m curious if we successfully pranked any of our regular readers?
If you’re NOT among that number, please share with us your favorite candy bar.
I’ll go first; YORK PEPPERMINT PATTIE!
Here’s the link!

Perhaps I did not get that april fools joke. It had something to do with W.A. Yankovich and there I left it. I know you like his works, I do not. Respecting our differences
ReplyDeleteNowadays I do not eat much candy. In the olden days we had Kwatta chocolate bar. and Kwatta is still used as a word meaning any chocolate bar. Last year I was in a food store, minding my own business, when some lady (about my age) was looking for a similar item at the tea corner. We both could not find what we were looking for. I asked her and she said her, I pointed at that item, I told her mine and she pointed out mine. Both starting to get old quite young, I said and she smiled. When she walked away, I also made my way to the counter when I passed the chocolate section. Ah Kwatta, I said. She stopped, turned and said: I have not heard that in ages... very nice.
Kicks for nix as they say.
Another candy bar I remember were The 3 Musketeers, there was also a little comic strip where the heros had to rescue somebody, and gave the villain a Three Musketeers bar, and because it tkas so long to eat, there was time to save the lady,
I am pleased to see Cliff up there. That man is so good mannered I did not know he had it in him to take it out on someone.
Three Musketeers is a muscular choice, Richard. I was unaware of Kwatta bars!
DeleteI like Almond Joy. They have almonds and they give me joy!
ReplyDeleteFair enough! Almond Joy is probably my second choice. I'm a sucker for coconut.
DeleteMy favorite is the 5th Avenue candy bar. Is the York Peppermint Patty really a candy bar? And what about the Reese's Peanut Butter Cup? I like the Chunky bar too, but it's square. Does a candy bar have to be rectangular? Questions like these can keep me up at night.
DeleteGood questions.
DeleteI say being round or square doesn't affect what it is. That's just marketing--trying to make it stand out.
Like SMALL FACES' Odgen's Nut Gone Flake album which was originally issued in a round sleeve. They wound up using a square one after the original pressing--because THEY ROLLED OFF THE SHELF! Which isn't nearly as good as FLYING off the shelf.

HA HA STINKY!!! I hadn't opened the April Fool's file until now! Rick Astley Never Gonna Give You Up for every song what a joke! Ha ha you really got me! TWIX
ReplyDeleteI planned that prank for a couple years, VCMD!
Deleteall the young punks was fairly early in the clash recording history to be fair
ReplyDeleteYou are, of course, correct Dave. I mixed it up with a track I have set aside for this series from CUT THE CRAP.
Deletei look forward to that
DeleteMy favourite bar is probably Snickers, probably very unhealthy, but it hits the spot when necessary ;-)
ReplyDeleteI'm a big SNICKERS fan, too, Koen!
