HALLOWEEN 2026 Vol. 2 features some artists you might expect, like; THE CRAMPS, ZACHERLE with S.C.O.T.S., & THE RAYMEN.
Some may come as a bit of a surprise; JOAN JETT & THE BLACKHEARTS, JONATHAN RICHMAN, WEBB WILDER, TMBG, CHARLIE DANIELS BAND, & REDD KROSS.
And, as you've come to expect from JONKY, some are on the obscure side; ZOMBIE GHOST TRAIN, THE PROVIDENCER, THE SLIMETONES, THE CUSTOMS, & ELLE CORDOVA.
You might recognize ELLE CORDOVA’s face from her sky-high presence on social media. Or you might be more likely recognize her by her formerly-known-as name; REINA DEL CID. With her frequent collaborator TONI LINDGREN, she tells the tale of how ROSWELL NM became "Alien Central."
CHARLIE DANIELS BAND’s The Legend Of Wooley Swamp is a wonderful tale straight out of EC Comics that I had almost forgotten about—but is perfect for a HALLOWEEN mix!
These selections makes great background music for when you’re sharpening your guillotine blade, cutting the blooms off your roses, or robbing graves. It also goes great with a warm cup of apple cider, if you lean toward that end of the spooky spectrum.

ReplyDeleteI’d like to know what made up YOUR best Halloween costume.
I’ve only won one “Costume Contest.” I made a BOX TURTLE costume out of an actual BOX with a curved piece of cardboard to complete the shell. From the front it looked like a box, & from the back it looked like a turtle. I fashioned a turtle head out of papier-mâché, & used green leggings for the arms & legs. Of course it was all painted appropriately.
To get into character, I drove 20mph the whole way to the party.
Here’s the link!

In 1977, when I was 11 my 2 best friends and I dressed in drag. Our mom's went full force and we got seriously hit on by high school boys who though we were girls dressed as hookers. I learned how to run in high heels that night, which came in handy when we did La Cage aux Folles in college
DeleteHilarious!
DeleteThe best costume may have been many years ago when my wife and I went to a party as the Coneheads from Saturday Night Live. I had a beard at the time, which I shaved off for the protrayal and a surprising number of my friends did not recognize me! The group was not real familiar with my wife either, so that help the deception, as well. The second best was when I went as the DC character; Doctor Fate, with the full face covering helmet to a party at a comic book store. I should
ReplyDeleteI love it. You know it's a good costume when people who know you well, don't recognize you.
DeleteYou've given me a good idea for a future question: DC or MARVEL?
Funny thing, is that I'm really a Marvel Guy, but with that said Doctor Fate is my favorite lesser known character over at DC. Batman being my favorite at DC. Fav Marvel character is Captain America & The Avengers my all-timefavorite comic book!
DeleteHold your horses, Greg! That's a FUTURE question! :)
DeleteIt is only recent that the children in The Netherlands have Halloween. It is an Americanisation and I will leave it there. Have you seen my mail?
ReplyDeleteSame here, at that time we only knew about Halloween from books and movies...
DeleteThe original Halloween scared my high school girlfriend so badly that when we got in the car after watching it, I looked in the rearview mirror & pretended my friend was in the back seat wearing a hockey mask. She squirmed in her seat, & I told him to stop screwing around & take it off. I thought she was going to lose her mind!
DeleteAt this point, I think I have five blu-ray copies of Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein, given how many times Universal has included it as a bonus on various configurations of their classic horror films.
ReplyDeleteThey included it on the Dracula, Frankenstein and the Wolf Man blu-ray sets, even knowing “monster kids” were going to buy all three of them.
I haven’t upgraded to the 4K sets, but Universal has probably included Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein on several of those.
My best childhood costume was a robot that my mom made for me out of cardboard. It looked a little like Bender (long before Futurama existed), painted silver. Cheap and maybe not the best designed costume ever, but it was homemade - the best kind of costume.
Thanks for sharing your story with us, James. I never got tired of the ABBOTT & COSTELLO MEET movies when I was a kid. I bet I could still sit through one of them if there were snacks.
DeleteI also feel homemade costumes (and live albums) are the best!
One year I went as Van Gogh (bandaged my ear with lots of fake blood) and his date Debbie going to the prom (she wore a prom dress with a corsage centered by a bloody plastic ear). Got a good laugh. --Muzak McM.
ReplyDeleteOne year my wife dressed as Little Red Riding Hood, and I was the Big Bad Wolf. I wore a wolf mask and a granny dress with a tail sticking out. As a kid I liked Halloween but LOVED Christmas. As an adult, I still like Christmas but much prefer Halloween. Stinky's Christmas comps are always good, but his Halloween collections are even better! The first track reminded me that there's a compilation of Roky Erikson covers here if you need more monster-themed music for your Halloween party.

Great comp! My best--depending on what one means by best--was the fall of 1981, when I hit Embassy Row in Washington, DC as Fidel Castro (to whom I bear a somewhat vague resemblance)/Central American revolutionary. I was somewhere between pleasantly surprised and slightly annoyed by the amount of attention I received and had to produce my identification a few times...I score a bottle of wine at the French Embassy. Funny post-script: that was 31 October. A few days later on 4 November I attended a watch party for the Socialist Party USA delegates running for Washington's constitutional convention and met the woman I have now been married to for 44 years--she swears to this day she saw me Halloween night in my Fidel guise and I ignored her...given her looks (still), I find this extremely doubtful.
ReplyDeleteHa that struck a nerve for me Eric S. My perpetual costume for awhile was Fidel Castro! It was easy-peasy with my dad's old Korean War Army jacket, a hippie hat with black pony tail some gal had woven into a braid and a slip-on black beard. Now coolest at one of my Halloween parties in my first house were three friends who dressed as the Hanson Brothers from the movie Slapshot. One of the last Halloween with my older two 60's born brothers had their good friend full-body APE suit that was pretty cool I remember at a young age when I was wearing super cheap masks where I could find them. STINKY this comp is amazing like usual!!!!
DeleteThanks for the kind words, VCMD. It's wild that out of the comments we got on this post that there were TWO Fidel Castros!
DeleteI love the idea of going as the (ORIGINAL) Hanson Brothers from SLAPSHOT. One of the best sports movies ever!
The bad thing about an ape suit is that the inside of it starts to stink of: "Damn Dirty Apes!"
Trust me. I know a lot about stinking.
Great story, Eric!
ReplyDeleteI wonder how often love at SECOND sight happens?
My favorite costume was a robot (I think it would have been '60 or '61) prominently featuring a head made from an empty Baskin Robbins ice cream container. It had felt feelers for antennae and the rest of the magic was largely heavy-duty aluminum foil. "Make sure you go potty before we do the bottom part". My mom never had wiser words than that. Got through trick or treating and the bonfire at Valley Park before I had to become a semi-robot (but a dry one....)
ReplyDeleteRobots seem to have been a popular Halloween costume among our readers. Thanks for giving us a peek inside yours, eFredd!
DeleteLooks like some great music to get a treat by, it will be on my Halloween house music display this week
ReplyDeleteWe love to hear that, SmokeJensen! Happy Halloween to you, and please stop by on Wednesday when I'll be posting the third volume of five!
