Comeback Special: 2010

Do you remember Son Of Bazerk?  I sure do: Change The Style was one of my favorite videos on Yo MTV Raps. Son Of Bazerk released a Bomb Squad produced album in 1991. Almost two decades later, they reappeared with Well Thawed Out (released on Chuck D's Slam Jamz label). Group member Jahwell died in December 2022.

Do you remember SoCal punk band Symbol Six?  I sure do: "Beverlywood" is a classic of the Posh Boy sound. Symbol Six released one promising 1982 EP before breaking up.  The original members reunited and made an LP called Monster 11 in 2010, followed by two more albums (in 2014 and 2017) with Tony Fate (ex-BellRays) on guitar.

Several NYC post punk groups returned with new albums in 2010:  Swans, Versus, Certain General and Ike Yard.  Do you remember Ike Yard?  I sure do...

Devo made a strong comeback in 2010 with Something For Everybody, widely regarded as one of the band's best.  OMD and Nitzer Ebb also dusted off their synthesizers in 2010.

The Vaselines reunited two decades after their musical and romantic breakup, and released the cleverly titled Sex With An X.  The Inca Babies also made a comeback in 2010 with Death Message Blues.

Sade returned after a decade's absence with Soldier of Love.  Gil Scott-Heron made a remarkable and unexpected return in 2010 with I'm New Here.  Equally unexpected was Gil's death in 2011.

Sorry the blog has been quiet awhile! I started a new job recently, and Stinky's been busy as well. I just need to figure out a way to make time for blogging.

  2. "Do you remember Son Of Bazerk?" ... um ... nope. "Do you remember Ike Yard?" ... nope. I'm sure I heard Symbol Six back in the day on Rodney on the Rock. And I've heard of Devo too! Always willing to give a Jonder comp a spin regardless. Thx!

    1. Thanks for the kind words, MrDave! Ike Yard was the first US band signed to Factory Records, but they didn't sound like anyone else on the label. Kinda spacey, dubby, like a soundtrack for driving around deserted city streets late at night. "The Dominatrix Sleeps Tonight" was made by some of the Ike Yard crew.

As for Son of Bazerk (with No Self Control and the Band)...
