It's been awhile since Stinky graced us with one of his themed compilations. Here are Volumes 3 and 4 in the internationally beloved Songs Of Footwear series. The cover photos suggest that he's got kinky boots on the brain, but there's no mischief afoot -- these are sensible songs about shoes.
Volume 3 establishes a firm footing in the classic blues of BB King, Elmore James, Buddy Guy and Junior Wells. For those who got no kick against modern blues, there's Elvin Bishop, Captain Beefheart, RL Burnside and more. This set features songs about traveling shoes, muddy shoes, baby shoes, running shoes, new shoes, and no shoes. If you got no shoes, you got no sole -- and that's sure to make your toes turn blue.
Volume 4 has even more of what you're funkin' for: dancing shoes, rock & roll shoes, soul shoes, and radio shoes. Gator shoes, trouble shoes, china shoes, chrome shoes, red shoes, and blue shoes -- of the suede variety, of course.
Vol. 4 ventures into New Wave (Blondie, Glass Eye, Martha & The Muffins). It's also got oldies but goodies from Eddie Cochran, Faron Young, Hank Ballard, Patsy Cline, Carl Perkins and Charlie Rich. It runs the gamut from Kevin Ayers to Frank Zappa. Bobby "Blue" Bland rubs shoulders (or stubs toes) with Blue "Oyster" Cult!
PS to Quatermass - I re-upped Stinky's Sound Effects Vol. 5 compilation, as you requested. Enjoy!
