LOOSE! Volume 9 - "OH, BEHAVE!"

LOOSE! Vol. 9 deftly delivers the debauchery you’ve come to expect from the series.

Whether you prefer to Push Push In The Bush, or to get down & dirty on the floor of men’s rooms like Penicillin Penny, there’s something for everybody!  The Dictators and Fringe Benefit happily do it in cars.  The Old 97’s & Jimmy Buffett like to get juiced up before they do the deed.

Flo & Eddie & The Turtles try to be more subtle on I’m Chief Kamanawanalea about which Trouser Press scribe Bill Popp wrote: Things get downright nutty as the band takes on the guise of Hawaiian group Chief Kamanawanalea and the Royal Macadamia Nuts, for the immortal – and punningly immoral – “I’m Chief Kamanawanalea (We’re the Royal Macadamia Nuts.)” Bird calls and the kind of exotica one would be more likely to find on a Martin Denny LP are joined by a faux-tribal beat courtesy of drummer Johny Barbata.

Hanoi Rocks are about as subtle as hair metal bands get on Grin & Bear It, and anyone with a radio knows Bad Company Can't Get Enough.  Mick Jagger details exactly what to look for if you Start Me Up, and Lynyrd Skynyrd asks one favor of you: Gimme Three Steps (Mister).

Joan Jett, Etta James, and Benjamin Orr all take a gentler tack.  Dread Zeppelin deconstruct Whole Lotta Love, and Amazing Rhythm Ace’s vocalist Russell Smith downsizes for his solo version of Third Rate Romance.

Many of the tracks (Ring My Bell, It's All Rite To F*ck All Nite, Hacka Tacka Music) were suggested by our beloved readers—you know who you are!

LOOSE Vol 8! Now with more Hank Hill!

Anyone who’s familiar with the LOOSE series knows that the songs focus on folks who are intent on acting on their baser instincts.  There are songs about twerking, jerking, & merkins (alright, maybe not merkins).  They’re songs that celebrate being outside the sexual norm—songs by outliers, trailblazers, & the occasional pervert.

Female artists on this collection include Amyl & The Sniffers, Joan Jett, Sue Saad, Pearl Harbor, The Waitresses, & Jean Shepard.  Frequent commenter Richard suggested a track that has really grown on me: Barbara Markay’s Give Your Dick To Me, & Jon suggested Channel 3’s Wetspots.

The previous volume has songwriter Richard Berry’s version of his Get Out Of The Car (Uh Oh) which is made slightly less date-rapey by Sammy Davis Jr. adding a postscript.  Have Love, Will Travel makes another appearance courtesy of The Sonics, as does Who's Makin' Love? By The Amazing Rhythm Aces’ vocalist Russell Smith.

One of the most unsung heroes of rock & roll; Screamin' Jay Hawkins contributes Bite It!  As difficult as it is to believe, his massive influence on shock rockers has been all-but erased by time.  Alice Cooper’s allmusic listing doesn’t even list Screamin' Jay as an influence—and there simply wouldn’t have been an Alice, a Marilyn Manson or a Rob Zombie without Jay laying the foundation he put down brick by brick (at a time when many parents were threatened by their kids idolizing a black man—never mind a black man who rose out of a coffin to start his shows!)

The inclusion of a few acts will come as no surprise to anyone.  Tenacious D can always be counted on to serve up a track like Kielbasa.  As can The Dictators, The Beat Farmers,  Richard Cheese, River City Rapists, The Devil Dogs, & Dr. Hook & The Medicine Show (courtesy of Shel Silverstein’s songwriting skills).

The mortar between these cinderblocks is supplied by a collection of artists that any CD-length compilation would be lucky to have: Tim Curry, Gene Vincent, Frank Zappa, Bad Company, Elephant’s Memory, Stephen Stills, & Kurtis Blow.

So sample the salacious sounds on this collection--get on your good foot, get down with it, & (if you're so inclined) get down on it.

LOOSE! VOL. 7 - The In & Out Crowd

LOOSE! VOL. 7 - The In & Out Crowd

The LOOSE series focuses on what goes on when the lights go off—and sometimes what comes off!  These are songs about the ins & outs of romantic entanglements.

There’s no shortage of cover bands milking misaligned music styles, but The Cleverlys are a cut above other bands who do unusual versions of rap songs.  Look no further than their bluegrass treatment of The Shape Of You.  Richard Cheese rigorously revamps the rap classic Gin & Juice (and should probably have to give Bill Murray a cut of his royalties).  Atlanta Georgia’s The Coolies deconstruct Cecilia which (regular readers know) gets my vote for the dirtiest song to ever hit the top ten.  Dread Zeppelin does the same until the juice runs down their leg in Lemon Song.

When The Stray Cats returned rockabilly to the charts, lots of artists rushed through the door they kicked open with their brothel creepers.  Few had as pure a pedigree as Billy Burnette who was the son of rockabilly royalty.  His uncle and his father and were the songwriters Johnny & Dorsey Burnette of The Rock ’N’ Roll Trio fame. His Rockin' With Somebody New is proof that proud parentage doesn’t protect you from infidelity.  Chuck Berry showed he had some gas left in the tank, and some stink on his finger with his live version of Reelin' & Rockin’ from the film American Hot Wax.

Making their first appearance on JOKONKY are The Carpetbaggers.  Cincinatti’s favorite sons serve up Sin Now, Pray Later.  There’s an undercurrent of infidelity in this installment, as R.B. Greaves, Cher, & Dr. Hook & The Medicine Show are done dirty by their significant others.  The blues aren’t always about being cheated on… Big Joe Turner, Big Maybelle & Barbecue Bob are all bragging about the good lovin’ they’re getting.

While he came across as a southern gentleman, Tom Petty was a rock star for his entire adult life, so he definitely got up to some getting down.  He suggests the children leave the room for his live rendition of Hang On Sloopy.  Question Mark & The Mysterians were a rocking’ live unit from the mid-sixties into the mid-nineties.  In later years, Question Mark sang his original lyrics for I Need Somebody, replacing you captivate me with you masturbate me.

Prince was known for his Dirty Mind, and when Rick James asked a girl to Give It To Me Baby he was persistent.  Richard Berry flat out insisted that his dates be into the hereafter.  In Oh, Oh!  Get Out Of The Car, he makes it clear that if his date isn’t here after what he’s here after, she’s going to be here after he’s gone!

LOOSE! Vol. 6 -- Now with 10% more nudity!

The LOOSE series dares to shine a light on what goes on in the dark.  There's sausage-hiding, back-riding, & finger sliding.  Folks are used, abused, & knocked out of true.  Some participants are uncaged, all the rage & underage, and others are stewed, screwed, & tattooed.  But they’re all LOOSE!

Various & sundry pastimes are represented.  The Amazing Rhythm Aces, Rodney Crowell, & Nashville Pussy all make the beast with two backs.

Dr. Hook & The Medicine Show & The Beat Farmers add some drugs & alcohol to the mix.

Some women are bad news according to: Led Zeppelin, Sarah Jarosz, The Spongetones, & Nick Gilder.

And some women are bad news in the best possible way.   Just ask: Lazy Lester, Bill Withers, Hoodoo Gurus, Le Tigre, & Hot Chocolate.

LOOSE Vol. 5 - HOSE ANNA IN HER HIGH ASS

Merry Christmas Everybody!  By December 25th, I’m pretty much over Christmas.  No one needs another download of The Beatles' Christmas Records, so here’s the next volume of LOOSE! (Vol. 5!).  That’s ANNA on the cover, and in honor of the holiday, this edition is subtitled: HOSE ANNA IN HER HIGH ASS!

Regular visitors to JOKONKY know that each volume of LOOSE is chock-full of songs about what itches, & how people choose to scratch it.  But this one includes my nomination for the dirtiest song of the 70’s: Simon & Garfunkel’s Cecila.  “Making love in the afternoon with Cecilia, up in my bead room.  I got up to wash my face… when I come back to bed, someone’s taking my place.”  Wash your face, indeed, Mr. Simon.  As the old joke goes, Paul is a "cunning linguist."

Britain’s bawdy balladeers include Ian Hunter, Alex Harvey, Giggles, & Babe Ruth.  There are a couple tracks by R&B cats: Amos Milburn & Al Copley, a couple by power poppers: Alex Chilton, Morningwood. There are a couple by new wavers Devo & Nervous Eaters (who “want a little more, from the girl, the girl next door”).

Dancing and loose behavior are tightly linked--and represented here by Chic & Sin With Sebastian.  Describing the funnier side of sleazy behavior falls to Tom Lehrer & Jim Stafford.

Even though heavyweights like Todd Rundgren, The Ozark Mountain Daredevils & The Pandoras weigh in, the best track by far is PHIL LEE’s You Should Have Known Me Then, in the course of which, Phil recounts how: “every night I’d go to bed, my head between two boobs.”  Big deal.  So did Larry Fine.

Nevertheless, you can check Phil Lee out here: https://philleeone.bandcamp.com/album/you-should-have-known-me-then and you can find the link to your JOKONKY Christmas present in the comment section!  Ho-Ho-Ho!

LOOSE! Vol. 4 - Songs By Singers Who Go Down Easy!

LOOSE! Vol. 4

If you’re paying attention, the LOOSE! series features songs about humping, pumping, swallowing, gagging, and being too drunk for any of those things compliments of Dead Kennedys.

Other boys behaving badly include: Mac Davis, David Allan Coe, Matt Lucas, Amos Wilburn, Al Perry, & Dan Stuart.  And the girls gone wild include: Amy Winehouse,  The Pandoras, The Ace Of Cups, & Angie & The Car Wrecks.

“Danger! Will Robinson!”  LOOSE! Vol. 4 also contains a track by Lost In Space star Billy Mumy’s Dr. Demento duo Barnes & Barnes.  David Lee Roth’s inspiration, Jim Dandy delivers Hot & Nasty with the help of his cronies in Black Oak Arkansas. The Stones can always be counted on to contribute something sleazy., & Poison shocks us all by doing the same.

The link is in the comments, so “when in Rome…”

LOOSE! Vol. 3 - Another Stinky's Homemade Record!

LOOSE! Volume 3!

To be honest, nobody asked for more, but everyone around here has come to expect me to beat a good idea into the ground!  And, to quote Ben Grimm: “It’s clobberin’ time!”  As I post Vol. 3 there are  two more right behind it.

To recap: LOOSE! got it’s start in the days of CASSETTE compilations.  My nephew was in THE KISS ARMY, and I felt it was their salacious subject matter that he liked as much as the music.  So like any good uncle, in hopes of widening his horizons--I sent him a series of cassettes entitled: ONE TRACK TAPES.  These songs are about what the singer wants done, and who the singer wants to do it!  These songs are full of LOOSE: loose morals, loose women, loose men, & loose lips (which sink ships).

LOOSE! Volume 3 has tracks by some bands that should come as no surprise: Aerosmith, The Rolling Stones, Jerry Lee Lewis, & The Knack.  And, some that you might not expect: Big Star, The Everly Brothers, & Lenny & The Squigtones.  Some of the artists are obscure in general like L.A.’s The Groovy Rednecks, Holly Penfield, & Jeanette Katt who went on form The Chubbies.  Lucinda Williams is here, and so is her longtime guitarist/producer-gone-solo Gurf Morlix singing about Your Sister.  "Hey!  Them’s fightin’ words!"

But the stars of this outing are the pop artists.  Jefferson Starships' Mickey Thomas joins Elvin Bishop in slagging Miss Slick Titty Boom (one of my favorite B-Sides).  Songbird Sam Phillips sings All Night, Bree Sharp is Not Your Girl, and Toni Tennille wants to know how The Captain learned to “do it like that”.

As it turns out, Dutch superstar Herman Brood is all about Doin’ It, as well.

Don’t be uptight—get LOOSE! (in the comments!)

LOOSE! Vol. 2 - Songs Of Sex, Drugs, & Rock & Roll!

LOOSE! Volume 2!

My LOOSE! series of compilations got it’s start in the days of CASSETTE compilations.  My nephew was in his KISS phase, and I pointed out that I understood the appeal—but suggested it was their salacious subject matter that he liked more than the music.  I also opined that: “It’s been done better.”  That gave birth to a series of cassettes I sent him over several years called: ONE TRACK TAPES.

In coming up with concepts for JOKONKY comps, I thought back to how much fun those collections were, and decided I'd give reviving them a try.  For starters, I'd need a catchy new title that would help me drag the series into the realm of CDs & mp3’s.  As I post this there are five voluptuous volumes.

These are songs about what the singer wants to do, and who the singer wants to do it to!  The one constant on these tracks is that someone is being LOOSE!  Contained are loose morals, loose language, and in some cases loose booty!

LOOSE! Volume 2 has tracks by Buck Naked & The Bare Bottom Boys, The Nails, Romeo Void, Annabel Lamb, Al Copley, The Pandoras, & concubine to the stars Bebe Buell singing Little Bit of Whore.  It roars into action compliments of Alejandro Escovedo & ends with the second-best pairing of Belushi & Aykroyd.

No, you didn’t black out and miss a post on JOKONKY BLOG.  Volume 1 was unleashed by our friends over at C90 LOUNGE.  Tell them Stinky sent you:  https://c90lounge.wordpress.com/2024/06/27/a-guest-post-from-stinky-loose-volume-1/
