Stinky's Christmas Sound Effects!

Volume Six of Sound Effects Records is a holiday special! This will also be a special week on the blog, because Stinky has created so many Homemade Albums recently that we're doing daily posts to share them all. He joked that we could call it Stink Week (like Shark Week), and so it shall be. There's not much else going on this week, is there?

You will recognize some of these seasonal songs (and their performers), but Stinky snuck a few surprises into your sonic stocking, boys and girls! Me, I was happy to see The Angry Snowmans and Atlanta's own Ottoman Empire on the tracklist. Stinky and I are Coolies fans 4-evah. Speaking of the ATL, there's a Christmas comp of Atlanta artists way back in the blog archives.

Merry Christmas and Happy Stink Week! See ya tomorrow...

Stinky's Sound Effect Records #6!

Here's the follow up to Volume Five in Stinky's series Sound Effect Records (posted back in March). Today's installment's got punks (Dee Dee, Sylvain Sylvain, and Blag Dahlia). It's got rockabilly rebels (Billy Lee Riley, Sleepy LaBeef, and Pontus J. Back). It's got iconic women ranging from Leslie Gore to Debbie Harry, Britney Spears, and Kim & Kelley Deal.

Britney takes on "The Beat Goes On" and Leslie Gore puts her spin on "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap". Plus there's Ruben Ramos and Los Super 7's version of "Heard It On The X", and Nirvana's take on "Love Buzz" (originally by The Netherlands' psychedelic Shocking Blue).

It's a cosmopolitan conglomeration of songs with sound effects. From faraway Brazil, Stinky introduces us to The Charque Side Of The Moon with their remake of "Money". (This article explains the double entendre of the band's name but has a broken link to their album cover; I found the image here.) From Brazil, we're off to Australia to meet The Captain Matchbox Whoopee Band. Volume 6 might be Stinky's best batch yet; he always blends the popular with the obscure, but I think he's added an extra dose of fun to his trademark mélange. Bon appétit, mes amis!

Put Some Stink On It!

Stinky brings the noise with more Sound Effects Records! Telephones ring, doors slam, and sirens blare. Stinky's got tons of tunes and tones, with everybody from Tony Orlando & Wings to Paul McCartney & Dawn! From surf to psych, and from synths to ska!

Do you prefer Billy Zoom or Billy Joel? Do you like your Cher without Sonny? Do you have a taste for the Tikiyaki Orchestra? Would you savor a soupçon of "Green Slime"? If your answer is "yes" to all of the above, then Stinky's your man.

Take a trip in the "Squad Car" with Jackie & The Cedrics, "See Emily Play" with the Wondermints, and "Journey To The Stars" with the Torquays! All this and more can be yours for a price so low that we can't print it here!

More Stinky Sound Effects!

Stinky LePew, All-Time Number One guest contributor here at the blog, has another Homemade Record to share in his series of Sound Effects Records! For those of you keeping score at home, this is Volume Four.

Stinky draws from a wide range of styles in his tireless search for songs containing sound effects. How do you think he does it? I don't know.

Today's set includes a number of cover songs, including Summertime Blues, Eight Miles High, Detroit Rock City, Blitzkrieg Bop, For No One, Sweet Dreams, and Raining In My Heart. It also includes a personal favorite of mine, Living In The USA by The Steve Miller Band. That one dates back to 1969, when William "Boz" Scaggs played guitar with Steve "Maurice" Miller.

Stinky has another volume of Sound Effects Records coming up, plus more Songs Of Footwear. Don't miss his Songs Of Lipstick, Answer To Elvis (my personal favorite), or his other contributions. All of them can be found by clicking the link right here.

Stinky Sound Effects Volume 3!

The master of thematic mixes, Stinky returns with another volume of his Sound Effects Records. Once again, the selections range across decades and encompass New Wave, old school hip hop, rockabilly, and another slice of MSR madness.

There's a little bit of everyone from Alice Cooper to Ry Cooder! Jayne Mansfield and the Big Bopper rub shoulders with Otis Redding, Tommy James, and Sir Paul McCartney.

Don't sit there on the dock of the bay, don't ask me no questions, and don't leave me hanging on the telephone! Get a babysitter and pick up your dirt track date in your red Corvette -- I've got a case of party-itis, and Stinky's got the cure!

A Stinky New Year To You

It's time for the second volume of Stinky's Sound Effects Records, twenty tunes ranging from the doo wop era through the present day, from sandy beaches to steaming jungles, from apemen through garbagemen, from subterranean tube stations to stratospheric satellites.

No doubt you are already searching the jukebox of your mind palace to guess what Stinky might have up his malodorous musical sleeve this time. The roar of rockets and hot rod engines? The screams of animals and desperate men? Squealing brakes and squalling sirens? The charming chime of a child's bicycle bell?

Enjoy the mix. To all friends and readers of this humble blog, I wish you peace, happiness, good health and good fortune for the New Year.

Stinky Le Pew Has A Mixtape For You!

Hector, Buck Naked, and Stinky LePew
If you frequent the Twilight Zone blog, you may be familiar with Stinky and his masterful mixtapes, which often involve inventive themes. Stinky and I bonded over our mutual fondness for the music of Pearl Harbour, and his nom de blog is a tribute to the guitarist from Buck Naked and The Bare Bottom Boys (who backed Pearl on her last album).

Stinky graciously accepted my invitation to share one of his creations on this blog. Sound Effects Records No.1 features 22 songs that incorporate sound effects. Engines roar, thunder booms, crowds cheer, and coins clatter.

If someone challenged you to make a playlist of songs that contain sound effects, you might come up with some of the more popular selections on this mix, but I guarantee that you wouldn't think of all of them! From girl groups to glam, golden oldies to New Romantics, skinheads to metalheads ... There's a method to Stinky's musical madness, and the message of this mix is that sound effects add a special touch to an eclectic range of tunes. He's promised me that Sound Effects Records No.2 is on the way. Merci beaucoup, Monsieur Le Pew!
