A Lotta Little Feat and Lowell Covers

I've got twenty million things to do, and one of them is to wish a happy birthday to One Buck Records, which started out a year ago.  Our blog friend One Buck Guy recently resurrected an old project of mine, a collection of cover songs by Lowell George and Little Feat.

If this project sounds familiar, it was first posted at Voodoo Wagon, and then appeared three times at Farq's Memory Loss -- a pretty good run for such a poorly compiled collection.  OBG aims to give it a proper reboot.

You might have missed the recent release of Long Distance Love: A Sweet Relief Tribute To Lowell George.  The first Lowell tribute album was released in back in 1997, and it featured Lowell's daughter Inara George.

Inara sings on three tracks of this new Sweet Relief tribute. Also appearing are Joachim Cooder (Ry's son), Chris Stills (Stephen's son) and Miles Tackett (Fred's son).  Nepo babies?  Nope!  They're talented artists in their own right, worthy of appearing alongside old farts like that Costello fella.

It's a double album from the Sweet Relief Musicians Fund, which makes for a lotta Little Feat covers. So why not add some more? I told OBG that I have at least another disc's worth, and he said "post 'em if you got 'em" (or words to that effect). Today's share includes hipsters, obscurities and old folks boogie. It features two of this blog's favorite artists -- Dave Alvin and Robert Palmer -- and two former Feat affiliates, Roy Estrada and Fred Tackett.

ELSEWHERE ON JONDERBLOG: a swell set from Syd Straw, who recorded two Little Feat covers during her tenure with the Golden Palominos!

  4. Blog synergy! Good job, jonder, on compiling the former collection, and this. Interestingly, I might still add some more unknown/uncompiled numbers when "We Got You Covered: Little Feat" continues over at my place. But this is gonna be good listening in the meantime and, as usual at this place, I admire the breadth of performers and songs you (and Stinky and Koen) find for your projects...

    1. Thanks, OBG. There are definitely more Feat covers out there! Probably enough "Willin" covers for an entire CD, but I am unwilling to spoil my appreciation of that song by listening to all of them.

    2. True that, re: "Willin". By the way, 'Farq's Memory Loss' made me grin from ear to ear the other day...well played, sir, well played...
