IN THE MIX The David Bowie Edition

IN THE MIX The David Bowie Edition

If you're late to the IN THE MIX (pants optional) party, the goal of the series is to combine my two loves; music and trivia.

For The David Bowie Edition, I’ve mixed BOWIE guesting on other artist’s tracks--with tracks other artists helped BOWIE out on.

Players who were IN THE MIX on Bowie’s songs include Rick Wakeman, Alan Parker, Luther Vandross & Steve Ray Vaughan.

Bowie & Iggy Pop worked closely for a couple years.  Iggy’s Lust For Life sports backing vocals by David—who also toured backing The Iggster on piano--as he does on the live version of TV Eye.  Bowie collaborated with Lou Reed more than once, as evidenced by his presence on Satellite of Love & Walk On The Wild Side.

Younger bands invited The Thin White Duke to sing lead on tracks, like Arcade Fire, Placebo, & TV On The Radio.  David Sitek of TV On The Radio produced Scarlett Johansson’s Anywhere I Lay My Head album of Tom Waits covers, and Bowie guests on Falling Down.

  1. It’s requested that downloaders honestly answer this question:
    “What are you wearing?”

I’ll go first: Lounging pants, a black CHARMS (Boston Band) T-Shirt with cat hair on it, sneakers & a grin.

    1. Cycling jersey. Downloading it before I go.

  2. Salty Dawg Saloon (from sister's old bar in Homer, AK) which is a black T-shirt with logos front/back (and sans long sleeves that I cut off after moving to Florida). White lightweight dress shorts with Goodwill tweed double-ring slide-adjust belt, undies good for bike rides to work and THEE latest Sketchers slip-on shoe design with air-cooled memory foam insoles for my almost 12 years of sockless Florida life and Goodyear anti-slip rubber sole design for my usual work day after-lunch shirtless sun walk around the huge parking lot. Good work on all the comp.'s Stinky! (oh yeah, my big toenail fell off just now when I took off a shoe to read about it after at least a year ago when a policeman stepped on my foot and choked me till blue with his knee for trying to avoid downed powerlines that they had not marked off with cones on the sidewalk on my ride home from work--you know identical to George Floyd's experience).

    1. Did you lose consciousness, or just a toenail?

    2. Identical to George Floyd's experience . . . except for the part where you are 1) alive and 2) white

  5. I like this tracklist very much. Tracking down the individual tracks from different sources, not to download and reveal my choice of clothing.
Are these for another time? Queen & David Bowie, Pat Metheny, Eno, Fripp, David Sanborn, Lulu, Steeley Span, Giorgio Morodor, Bing Crosby.....
Lennon/McJagger and lest we not forget the artwork Keith Haring did

  6. Jonder, didn't lose consciousness (very close though but was shouting very loud) but spent the night in the slammer (at least they got my spec's now just in case) and paid $2500 in legal fee and 6 months cleaning up my neighborhood of garbage which was cool. Mistake using the word "identical" of course--correct on both accounts anony. Yeah, Stinky thanks for being with me on this, my pair 4 of 4 that I bought over two weekends at a Going out of business sale for Peltz shoes (I guess they are made so well now that they don't wear out in less than a year but that don't support the store---there's another Peltz farther away) that I'm wearing today also has the "ArchFit" which kicks ass and makes the sole stiffer for riding. Got a preppy dockers light brown style, dark blue today, reddish brown yesterday with comment and a thick-soled black model all slip on with air-cooled. Had to go all in during this sale since my size 14 are so hard to find usually. Had multiple pairs wear in to the hollow air-filled heel in 3 months so had to throw out. Oh yeah today have same tech vest over t-shirt that I had taken off when I answered the question yesterday as still a bit nipply today but great second floor cross breeze sleeping weather.

  7. Thanks to Anonymous for playing along, to Richard (no help here with what you seek), and to Viacom who is a Sketchers connoisseur!

  8. During my 4 day bike ride through Laos and Thailand I mainly wore my dark green Stetson hat, blue scarf, old white sport T-shirts, dreadful tourist shorts and arm 'protectors' (intense sunshine!)...
    Good job as always Stinky!

  9. I'm glad this is a pants optional party in case any ladies show up but you'll be glad to know I'm fully clothed in my daily outfit of Puma athletic pants (for strenous lounging), t-shirt, light weight fleece pullover and wool clogs instead of flip-flops since it's chilly out today.

    1. It's chilly here in GA too! I'm wearing jeans, thick winter socks and my best thrift store hoodie for my own "strenous lounging". MrDave, I finally saw the Redd Kross documentary when it made it to ATL this week, and it was truly great. The book is more "inside baseball" but the film is broadly entertaining (and even touches the heart strings), although I wouldn't take children to see it. Kurt Schellenbach from the Nip Drivers is onscreen for a minute, as well as Tracy Lea, Janet Housden, Geza X, Robbie "Posh Boy" Fields, Kim Shattuck, Ron Reyes, Dez Cadena, and many more. RK was on Jimmy Kimmel this week (though Jeff was not in great voice):

    2. PS - one of the film's revelations is that David Bowie was at RK's first club gig at the Hong Kong Cafe! Jeff & Steven also visit the house in Hawthorne where RK played a classmate's graduation party -- and invited Black Flag to headline! Too funny.

Y'all enjoy the "nipply" weather (as Viacom called it), and have a great weekend!
