Celebrate Four Decades of Panther Mania!

Stinky and I exchanged gifts online this year (social distancing, y'know). I sent him some pearls from Pearl Harbour. He made Tav Falco’s Panther Burns Live In Vegas 40th Anniversary Show, and we're sharing it here as Stink Week continues!

It was a perfect gift for several reasons. Tav and his Unapproachable Panther Burns were part of the Rough Trade singles story, and Tav Falco's Jukebox (aka Songs The Panther Burns Taught Us) was one of the first series shared on this blog.

Coincidentally, I recently snagged a copy of Midnight In Memphis (the 10th Anniversary hometown performance of Tav Falco's Panther Burns) at the Bompstore, where Triple X releases are on sale for a mere 5 bucks apiece!

Anyhoodles, here's the 40 Years Of Falco celebration in Vegas, live from last year's Cabaret Of Daggers tour! Tav is a consummate performer, a true gentleman, and a Renaissance man: a scholar of Memphis history and music, as well as an accomplished writer photographer, filmmaker, and tango dancer. He made a Christmas record too!

    1. It really is! Between producing The Cramps, making Flies On Sherbert and joining the Panther Burns, I think Alex started having fun again. He turned away from the Anglophilia and immaculate studio sound of Big Star, embraced his Memphis roots and got loose.

As I told Stinky, one thing I love about Tav is that he makes a virtue of his shortcomings. He sings out of key and off the beat, but makes it sound cool.

  4. So, what Pearl Harbour trinkets did you send to Stinky? Saw/heard/danced-to PH & The Explosions 10+ times circa 1979-81.

    1. Wow, I'm jealous! This year I splurged on the two singles from Pearl's 1980 solo debut in order to get the non-LP b-sides "Nerves" and "You Got Me All Wrong". I had them ripped and ready to post here, then read about Blixa's plans to release the album (Don't Follow Me, I'm Lost Too) on CD, including those b-sides.
