It’s pretty hard to miss Jack White singing/screaming in the chorus of Electric Six’s Danger! High Voltage. Maynard James Keenan of Green Jelly fame has lent his vocal cords to two to a lot of other people’s songs, which includes Rage Against The Machine’s Know Your Enemy. Taylor Hawkins supplies drums on Coheed & Cambria’s No World For Tomorrow. And Marianne Faithfull supplied vocals on Metallica’s The Memory Remains. Maybe Joe Perry will guest on more records now that Aerosmith are retiring (due to Steven Tyler’s vocal challenges). Joe is featured on Eminem's Sing For The Moment. Two other hard rockers, Dave Grohl and Rob Zombie, contributed to Puff Daddy’s Shot Caller Mix of All About The Benjamins.
There’s no mistaking Stevie Wonder’s harmonica on Chaka Khan’s I Feel For You. Or The Jackson 5’s vocals backing Wonder on You Haven't Done Nothin’. It’s only by virtue of my tireless research for suitable songs for IN THE MIX that I know that Stephen Stills supplied percussion on The Bee Gees’ You Should Be Dancing. Martha Wash of The Weather Girls IS the hook behind C+C Music Factory’s Gonna Make You Sweat/Everybody Dance Now!
Michael McDonald makes another guest appearance with Steely Dan on Peg. Michael Stipe lends his distinctive baritone to Billy Bragg’s You Woke Up My Neighbourhood AND Spacehog’s Almond Kisses. Long time session man John Paul Jones returns to his roots and backs R.E.M. on Miracle, and Chris Martin provides the male vocals on Dua Lipa’s Homesick.

ReplyDeleteThere have been a lot of great comments on Stinky's series IN THE MIX and Koen's new B-SIDE MADNESS series (with two more volumes on deck). We really appreciate you readers who take the time to share your thoughts and suggestions!
Nice one, thanks again!
ReplyDeleteMaybe for Vol. 3: Sly & Robbie – Language Barrier with No Name On The Bullet featuring Bob Dylan on Vocals, Guitar, & Harmonica!
This Is volume 3 after two volumes 70's. Maybe a Clare Terry Compilation is in place. She worked on a hundred things inclucing War Song by Culture Club, also with Tracey Ullman, Cerrone, Kevin Ayers, Alan Parsons, Olivia Newton John, Sandy Denny, Pink Floyd, Peggy Lee, and of course Sonny Okosuns.
ReplyDeleteWell spotted, sir. Volume 1 (The 70's) had two parts -- and some songs from the 80's. We aim to confuse!
DeleteReaders will know Clare Torry's voice (if not her name) from "The Great Gig In The Sky".
And now I am stuck searching for The Brits, helping each other out only to find some stinking matter. Lemmy (The Lemmy) on The Young And Moody Band- Don't Do That/How Can I Help You Tonight. The B-side is one for the flip-side fanatics. For crying out loud, Lemmy, Reggae.
ReplyDeleteHuh. Maynard James Keenan of Green Jello fame? Wouldn't he be better known for being in Tool and A Perfect Circle? (Well, maybe for my generation, anyway). But that reminds me of a suggestion for a possible third volume: He sings prominent co-lead vocals on the Loner Mix of David Bowie's "Bring Me The Disco King", a version that completely transforms the original...and is a personal favorite.
ReplyDeleteAnd speaking of Bowie, how about him very prominently backing up Placebo on a remix of "Without You I'm Nothing"..?
David Bowie, of Tin Machine fame?
DeleteNo, it's the David Bowie of Feathers fame.
DeletePS: Maybe you also know him from his hitmaking years in The Lower Third.
Oh, THAT David Bowie. I wondered if you meant the guy from Arnold's Painful Corns.
DeleteDon't forget Lemmy's band; THE HEADCAT! :)

P.S. Good suggestions!
I thought OBG meant David Bowie of Junior Eye's fame.
ReplyDeleteOr maybe Liam out of Beady Eye. I heard he's starting a band with his brother.
DeleteBowie?, David Bowie? Father of Duncan Jones, I read somewhere. Wasn't he an actor, I think saw him in Baal. You know Baal, By Brecht? No? Maybe another Bowie
DeleteYeah, wasn't he playing some sort of king in that one? Or some sort of Goblin?
DeleteSince I just heard it today: Might be almost too obvious, but what about Carly Simon's "You're So Vain" with Mick Jagger's uncredited but immediately recognizable vocal cameo?
ReplyDeleteHe said it! HE SAID IT !! One Buck Guy comes and just says it. We were all carefully trying to avoid the Word, and now he said it. It can't be unsaid. The word is out. You canNOT hide behind "too obvious" you just had to go and say it.
ReplyDeleteBowie a King,? a Goblin? think you mean that Bowie, who was a Cloud in Harlequin in Aquamarine
A cloud? Do you mean a harlequin clown? Aquamarine -- like the turquoise Perriot clown costume that Bowie wore?
DeleteAquamarine? You mean like The Life Aquatic with Steve Zizou which had a lot of Bowie, but no David..?!

DeleteFor those who want the Looking Glass Murders (Pierrot in Turquoise)
Let me try and find some Bowie that are not knife-related.
Help Each other Out, ok let me try it another way
DeleteCan anybody find me Tritone - I dream of Freud
https://www.discogs.com/release/4608835-Tritone-I-Dream-Of-Freud
