Triskaphilia

Blame The Damned. "Neat Neat Neat", Damned Damned Damned and "Noise Noise Noise" are probably the root of my fascination with song titles that repeat the same word three times.

Today's packet of three includes Bier Bier Bier (Dutch music), Blah Blah Blah (punk rock),  and Repetition Repetition Repetition (80's new wave and post-punk).  The Dutch one does include "Na Na Na" by The Shoes (as requested), and the 80's comp includes Richard's beloved BowWowWow as well as "Bow Wow Wow Wow", a track by Was (Not Was).

Thanks again to Stinky and Richard.  Stinky turned me on to music of the Lambrini Girls. Richard scoured the Brought To Life compilations for suitable titles.  One band that caught my interest was Turbo Hy-Dramatics, a group of New Yorkers who performed and recorded in Germany.  It was drummer Vinnie Signorelli's debut as a recording artist.  I really dig "Knock Knock Knock", and I recommend "We Are Mad And We Are Taking No Shit" -- a song as relevant today as it was in 1984.

Speaking of The Damned, the band will tour the US in May.  The lineup is Dave Vanian, Captain Sensible, Rat Scabies and Paul Gray.  Opening bands are The BellRays (May 1-14) and The Adverts (May 16-31).  Looking forward to some noise, noise, noise when The Damned come to town.

ELSEWHERE ON THE BLOG:  Stinky's amazing Brian James post, Koen's post on Dutch pirate radio, and Lisa Kekaula of The BellRays.

    2. All of those ABBA songs appeared in earlier volumes of this series. "I Do" was in the "Four or Further" compilation of quadruple, quintuple, etc. titles. I shared a cover of Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! because it was from a Therapy EP of cover songs that all had Gimme in the title. Oooh, I just noticed that there are different Gimme songs on different formats of the EP -- now I want them all, so gimme!

    4. Thanks, Koen! All of the Nederpop is from Richard's collection. He also sent me the Jacques Dutronc song, which is fantastic. I didn't know that Mungo Jerry covered it!

  8. As much as I love those other late 70s UK groups like The Jam, Clash, Stranglers, etc. - The Damned remain Tops ! Long may they make Noise, Noise, Noise! Muddy Mike

    1. I agree 100%. The Damned is also more FUN than any of those other first wave UK punk bands (aside from the Rezillos). Rat Scabies is the Keith Moon of his generation, and I'm excited that they've put aside their differences long enough to make some well deserved CASH from their "Mindless Directionless Energy".

    1. Many many many more to come -- from Richard's collection, from the great suggestions listed above, plus random songs that just seem to find me as I wander the WWW (Web Web Web).

  10. Berni, if you're gonna drink all the liquor, maybe you *could* share the Matthew Grimm and the Red Smear song ("Fuck Fuck Fuck") after you sober up? It's not on their Bandcamp page, and I haven't found it yet on Soulseek.

CC and andreyud are breathing down your neck. You're not putting up the numbers on the big board. Go big or go home, ya lush!
